How To Pan For Gold. This introduction on gold panning basics will teach you step by step on how to find color in the bottom of your pan. We assume you know what a gold pan is or you wouldn't be here, but some people might not realize the purpose behind the pan. To most they think that a prospector(someone who looks for gold) would sit all day on bent knees swishing the creek for "color" (miner term for gold). This usually is not the case, although it did happen for the lone miner who didn't want to attract much attention. Now adays with sophisticated methods of attracting gold the best use for panning is to find the gold by panning and then extracting dirt to pan later, or using a sluice, rocker box, or other faster method to extract larger gold.

So to get started we will talk about the methods. The trick to gold panning is to get a good swirling motion and letting a little dirt spill out the edge on each rotation. What happens is since gold is heavy it sinks to the bottom of the pan, but if you do it wrong your paydirt can lose gold out the top! Gently move your elbows, not your wrists, in elongated imaginary circles. Each time you swirl the water around once, let a little water and dirt spill out of the gold pan. Not too much. Keep the pan slightly tilted at an angle.

A question I often get is who has the best paydirt for sale online.

Now, I could individually review all of the gold paydirt on the internet because we sell most of that which is available on the market, but to say one is superior to others is a hard thing to do.

Gold Panning is the process of extracting gold from the soil with the use of a tool that looks like a pan. The pan looks like an upside down lampshade that has been cut off 3/4 of the way to the top. Inside the pan are little ridges that catch the heavier particles in the sand(ie; the gold), to picked out by a miner by hand or tweezers later.

Gold panning has been around for a long time but is mostly known for its iconic role in the American Gold Rush days of the 1800's. This was a miner's first tool in discovering new claims along river and creek beds. If the miner found gold he either kept panning or used greater methods of extracting the gold from then on out.

Many newcomers to gold mining don't want to pan, they want to use things like dredges, sluices, and highbankers. What they don't realize that even after they use these more industrialized tools, eventually they will still need to pan the dirt, if for no other reason than to be more thorough of extracting gold.

A gold pan is an essential tool in the miner and recreational gold hunters tool kit.

Learning Beginning Panning Techniques With Lead Pellets

Here's a few tips on how to pan for gold for beginners. First, the equipment you are going to need is a gold pan, some dirt and water(preferably moving water in a ditch or creek,etc), and some lead bullets(such as pellets for a pellet gun). You can pick up a gold pan in our store. For dirt, get you some good bank dirt along a ditch, canal, lake or stream. If you don't have any of that nearby, most dirt will do; bank dirt just mirrors the real thing a little better.

First take the little pellets and smash them to thin disks with a hammer. These lead disks will simulate gold nuggets since lead has a similar density as gold they will stay at the bottom of the pan. Mix a few into your dirt and take a fist size full of wet dirt and put it in your pan.

Once you are ready, you need to get on the side of a moving water source or use a large mouth bucket filled with water.

The trick to gold panning is to get a good swirling motion. Gently move your elbows, not your wrists, in elongated imaginary circles. Each time you swirl the water around once, let a little water and dirt spill out of the gold pan. Not too much. Keep the pan slightly tilted at an angle.

Every so often break up the clump of dirt in your pan, and continue to swish. It's a careful process, and eventually you will get to the bottom of the pan. If you did it correctly you will see the little lead nuggets we made in the pan, sticking out from the dirt. Carefully remove the pellets and count how many there are to see if you lost any. If you did, get you another load of dirt and keep practicing until you master it.
